This is a tougher to find pattern of pre-Civil War sword. This is the desirable model 1833 pattern Dragoon saber. This sword was made by the famous Ames Company of Springfield, Mass and it would have originally been engraved so at the base of the blade but sine the metal is relic condition it is no longer visible. The blade is full-length with a beautiful barn like patina all over. The entire brass handguard and, pommel and backstrap are present and you can see that they saw service. You can still see the ordnance inspector stamp on the quillion of the handguard as well as the "W.S." inspector initials. On the inside it has the "HKC" inspector marking from Henry K. Charter who approved it for military service. The original handle were lost eons ago with the brass backstrap and ferrule are nicely intact. This is a fine looking original relic condition Ames Dragoon pattern cavalry saber for the price.
