Here is a neat display piece! It is 1/2 of a Civil War Borman pattern cannonball. This is the style that was so heavily used during the early part of the Civil War. It is one half that shows the cavity perfectly well to show your friends how they were designed and worked. This one has a perfect cavity and it is the style with the yellow sulfur matrix holding the case shot in place. What makes it so special is that instead of the regular round balls they usually use for the case shot, they used Williams Cleaner Bullets. The .58 Caliber Williams Cleaner bullet was one of the most Unique of the war. The base section worked as a plunger which caused the zinc washer to spread out and clean the bore of the gun when fired. At the top it would have used a zinc Borman style time fuse but it is missing. This is a great display piece for your artillery collection.
