This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers and sailors would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp or they made it into town. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the Union soldier in his uniform. He is wearing his "sack" style military coat. The back of the card stock has the photographic gallery marking of H.B. King of Taunton, Massachusetts. It has the Civil War period ink identification on the back of the card that states it is the image of Elijah Herman Packard and notes his specialty of Hospital Steward. He is listed as serving with the Stewards but deserves more research. This is a cool original CDV image of a Union Surgeon.
