What a COOL, COOL looking gun! This is an original Civil War production .44 caliber Remington "Army " Model revolver. This is the classic Remington that over 128,000 were made by the end of the Civil War. This one has the serial numbers of 50,837. Along the top of the full-length 8 inch barrel, it has the clear Remington maker's marking as well as the Illion, New York production location. There are a couple of things that really make this one stand out. First is that it has profuse and very well-crafted engraving on the metal parts. It has the six shot round cylinder, frame, loading lever and brass trigger guard have full coverage custom hand engraving. The engraving is an attractive flowing scroll pattern. The next thing are the grips. The two-piece synthetic ivory colored grips have full coverage deep relief scroll ornamentation. These guns were the last of the 44 caliber percussion Remington revolvers and they were made between 1863 – 1875. It displays beautifully from all angles and the metal retains over 90% lightly faded re-blued finish showing some edge and carry wear with cylinder dragline. The brass trigger guard has clean bright appearance with the matching ornate engraving. The mechanics of the gun has a tight action and the bore retains sound rifling showing scattered very light pitting. This is simply a beautiful gun!
