This is a nice looking well used gun! It is an original Civil War ' Enfield pattern .58 caliber rifle. This is the Civil War production made in England like would have been brought through the blockade. It has the 1862 date of production on the lockplate to go along with the "TOWER" arsenal stamp and also the British crown stamp. The action catches on both of the two positions. The barrel is full-length and has the British proof marks still visible at the breech. The stamps include the "*24*24*" that denotes the bore of the gun as being .58 in caliber. The bore of the gun has pitting and is as dark as the rest of the gun with traces of the rifling still lightly visible. It has the original front sight still nicely intact and it is missing the long range rear sight. The gun has one of the sling swivels remaining. It has a full-length original ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel that is in nice shape. The stock has a very pretty medium tone to the wood that makes it display quite well. This is a very attractive looking Civil War 1862 dated Enfield pattern rifle that displays well.
