Here's an original full plate tintype image of a union soldier in uniform. He wears the frock style military jacket and you can clearly see the buttons going down the front. You can see the shoulder insignia on his uniform that looks to be Lieutenant's rank. On his side, he sports the foot style officer's sword which would be correct for a Lieutenant. The image comes beautifully framed in an antique wooden frame. You can see that the photographer hand tinted some of the image to give it a more lifelike appearance. The image is clear as you can see. These full plate tintype images are quite tough to come by because they were expensive when they were made. The image portion that is visible in the frame measures 6-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches in overall size. The frame itself measures 13-1/4th inches by 15-1/4th inches in overall size.
