Authentic Civil War Artillery Shells & Cannonballs
Section of a Excavated Brass Sabot for a 20# Parrott Shell with Nice Rifling
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a nice Civil War artifact that is still affordable. It is a section of an original brass sabot section for a Civil War rifled cannon shell. This is the pattern that went on the Parrott patent cannon shell. The sabot is the part of the shell that was designed to take the rifling of the cannon barrel. This caused the shell to be more accurate in flight. You can see from the rifling marks on the outer side of the sabot that this one was fired and was thrown off in flight. It measures 5-1/2 inches in length. This is a neat Civil War artillery piece!
