Authtentic Military Images
Ohio Attribution Albumen Image of Edward Jolley With His Springfield Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very neat Photograph Portrait of Union Soldier. The image is attributed to Edward Jolley from Ohio. The albumen style portrait shows the Union soldier posed with his Springfield rifle that has the bayonet attached. He wears his "Sack" style military coat and you can see his cartridge box sling across his chest. It is beautifully framed and matted in an antique wooden frame. It has the overall size of 12"x 13.75". One neat thing about this one is that it has the amateur hand-coloring to the patriotic painted background and details of the soldier's uniform. It has an index card affixed to the back of the frame, written in blue and black ink, "President Lincoln was to his camp, Edward Jolley, Born Aug (14?), 1830, in Virginia, died Feb 28, 1923 age 92 years 4 months 17 days, emigrated to Van Wert Co. Ohio and married Jane Hinton". When I looked Edward Jolley up on the records I saw that there were two but the birth dates didn't match these dates. It needs some more research. This is a wonderful image that is ready for your wall.
