Beautiful Infantry Musician's Dress Pattern Model 1881 Spiked Helmet
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great looking piece! It is an original U.S. Model 1881 spiked helmet and the style that was made for dress occasions. This is the version that was made with the black color body which was designed for non-summer use. On the front of the helmet it has the beautiful eagle insignia with the applied German silver musical lyre applied to the shield which stands for the soldier serving in the Infantry regiment as a musician. On the top of the helmet it has the dress plume instead of the usual brass spike. These are much tougher to find and this one displays well. On each side it has the correct brass infantry cross rifle rosettes. When you turn the helmet over, you see the original sweatband intact and in nice lightly worn shape. The vent on the top is still present. This is a great displaying helmet for the Infantry musician.
