This is a nice and complete original leather cartridge box for a Civil War pistol. This one has both of the original leather belt loops intact on the back as well as the closure tab and brass finial. On the center of the outer flap, you can see traces of the Newark, New Jersey manufacturer, Davy stamped by the rivet on the outer flap. The leather is nice and pliable with an attractive look but has some flaking here and there. On the underside of the flap, it has the soldier's name but I can't make it out. All I can see for sure is the rank of Sergeant and the "13th Inf". This is the box that would look correct with a 44 caliber or 36 caliber pistol. It measures about 6-1/4th inches by 4-1/2 inches in size. This cartridge box will look correct when displayed beside of any of the major Civil War era revolvers like Colt, Remington or Starr. Nice piece to display with your revolver.
