Autograph of Confederate Attorney General General and Alabama Governor, Thomas Watts

Here is a vividly clear autograph of an important Civil War Confederate figure. This is the autograph of Thomas Hill Watts, who served as the War time Attorney General of the Confederacy as well as the Confederate Governor of Alabama. Watts was born near Greeneville, Alabama on January 3rd 1819. In the early days of the war he served as Colonel of the 17th Alabama Infantry. On March 17th 1862 he was appointed Attorney general and served in that position until he resigned on September 8th 1863 when he was elected Governor of Alabama. He returned to Alabama after the War and practices law until his death on September 16th 1892. The autograph is trimmed and in a holder from the Historical Autograph Company. It is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph holder it is in measures 3-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches in overall size. It is a fine piece of history!
