2-Piece Version of the "Independent Cadets" Massachusetts Militia Coat Button MS26
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful non-excavated 2-piece coat size uniform button for the state of Massachusetts. It has the famous arm and sword design of Massachusetts on the face of the button just above the Massachusetts Indian. Below this image it has the banner with "MASSACHUSETTS" in the middle. The face of the button has a superb amount of the original gold gilding remaining on front and back with an excellent look. This one has the original shank intact with the Civil War era backmark of "D. EVANS & CO. ATTLEBORO, MASS". The button in the book is the early one piece button made by Robinson. Robinson was bought out of business by Evans in 1848 and they were located in Attleboro, Massachusetts. This 2-piece version is unlisted in the books but is a 2-piece version of the button listed as figure MS26 in Albert's button book and MS200a1 in Tice's button book. This is a fine button all the way around and just needs a nice home in your relic room.
