Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine autograph of Jefferson Davis while he was president of the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis had a proud career in the military as well as in politics. After the election of President Franklin Pierce, Jefferson Davis would become his Secretary of War. He held that post from March 7, 1853 until March 4, 1857. This document has aged to a dark tan color. The autographs are faded from age but still very legible. The Jefferson Davis autograph is written in ink on an 5-1/8ths inches by 1-3/4ths inch piece of paper. The paper also has the autograph of the Confederate Treasurer, Edward Elmore. You get both of the autographs on one piece of paper. The date of April 6th 1863 is in the lower left hand corner of the paper. It is accompanied by a modern made CDV image of President Davis.
