This is an original Civil War uniform button for the state of Louisiana. The front of the button has the mother pelican feeding her young in the nest below. There is some of the original factory gold gilding on the face of the button as you can see in the pictures. It displays welly. This is the pattern listed as figure LA220 in Tice's book. It has the correct Civil War era maker's mark on the back of the famous Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. It also has the original shank intact. This is a very nice looking classic style of Civil War Louisiana coat button.
