Beautiful Silvered Copper Vermont Light Infantry Coat Button VT7
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautifully designed button and it displays much better than in the images. This is the style that is listed as VT7 in Albert's button book and as VT215A1 in Tice's button book. This is the flat 1 piece button that was worn by the light infantry company of Vermont militia. This button is made of copper and had the silver wash applied all over. The face of the button still retains about 40% of the original silver. In person the button is much more attractive than in the pictures. The design of the button has the flying Eagle holding the American shield in her beak. Around the edge it reads "* LIGHT INFANTRY * Vt. MILITIA". The reverse of the button has the original shank that stands up perfectly straight and the vividly clear maker's Mark of the firm from Attleboro, Massachusetts of R. & W. Robinson. This is an exceptional button of a style that has come hard to find these days.
