What a beautiful piece from the Confederate State of Georgia. This is a wonderful original 1862 dated savings bond from the State of Georgia. This one was issued on May 1st 1862 and that date is printed in the lower section of the top. Across the very top it states "STATE OF GEORGIA" and notes that the Confederate Government authorized the State of Georgia to issue the bond for the sum of $1,000. This is a bond that was printed by R.A. Howell of Savannah, Georgia. It is signed by authority of the Secretary of State and is actually signed by the Georgia governor Joseph E. Brown. Also at the top it has the image of George Washington on one side and James Oglethorpe on the other. At the lower portion of the bond it has the 32 interest coupons intact. The bond measures 15-1/2 inches by 13 inches in overall size. The paper has a couple of small tears that have been archival tape repaired on the back and they are mentioned for exactness. What a wonderful piece of history from the Peach State!
