This is a beautiful original non-excavated great coat size Civil War uniform button from the infantry branch of service. These are a beautiful Civil War button. They have the Union eagle in the center with the "I" in the center of the shield on the eagle's chest. The "I" denotes the infantry branch of service. This one has fine detail on the face. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. It has the rare and desirable Civil War era backmark of "W.G. MINTZER PHILD.". This particular backmark is listed in Tice's button book as GI215a57. This is a very nice non-dug original Civil War era uniform button with a very tough to find backmark.
