This is a beautiful model 1864 pattern of the Joslyn cavalry carbine from the Civil War. This one has all matching serial numbers of 10,663. Most of the time the numbers don't match but this one does all over. It has the distinctive Joslyn style breech block that opens to the side when you pull the knob. This allows you to breech load the cartridge. The back of the latch has the Joslyn Patent marking as well as the 1861 and 1862 patent dates. These carbines shot a .52 caliber rimfire cartridge from the barrel. On the top of the barrel it has the original front and rear sights intact. The rear sight still has the base as well as both of the original sight leafs. The bore still has the lands and grooves all the way down the barrel. The action works superbly on all positions. The lockplate has a clear maker's mark from the Joslyn Firearms Company of Stonington, Connecticut production location. The mechanics of the lockplate still catches on both positions just as it should. The back of the breech block has the 10,663 serial number deeply stamped into the metal. On the reverse of the gun opposite of the lockplate it has the original saddle ring intact on the bar. The stock is a deep rich tone piece of walnut with a beautiful tone all over with very light service wear from use. It displays quite well from all angles. This is a fine looking Joslyn carbine.
