This is an original 1862 dated Civil War issued $100.00 note from the state of Mississippi. This is one of the very scarce pieces of currency issued from the Mississippi treasury. In the center of the note, it has the large "One Hundred Dollars" printing. It also has the image of the slave carrying the basket of cotton. This is a popular image on Southern Civil War notes. On the left-hand side of the note it has the image of a the maiden writing on a page with a child by her feet. On the right-hand side of the note it has the image of Colonel M.D. Haynes who served as the Treasurer of the State of Mississippi. It is hand signed and dated February 20th 1862. The note is the version listed as Cr1Ac in Shull's book on Southern Currency. He gives a value of $250 to $1150 for this particular note depending on condition. This one is in nice circulated condition with only a chip out of the lower right hand corner. As you can see in the pictures this one displays well. The overall size of the note measures 7-1/4ths inches by 3 inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
