Excavated Civil War Confederate Government Uniform Buttons

Scarce Version Dug Confederate Staff Officers Coat Button CS41a
Click on an image to enlarge

This is an extremely tough button to find. It is an excavated coat size Confederate staff officer's button. This is the Confederate manufactured style listed by Albert as CS41a and in Tice's book it is listed as figure CS284a1. The face of this button is in great shape and has beautiful detail remaining. This is the tougher to find version of the Confederate made staff officer's coat button because it is the one that has the eagle with the wreath with one talon and arrows with the other. It has an attractive amount of the original gold gilding remaining on the button face. The original brass back is present with original shank still present. When you see this particular version of construction it is believed that these were produced in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since New Orleans fell into union hands early in the Civil War there were relatively very few of these buttons produced and even fewer survive. This is a great looking excavated Civil War Confederate staff officer's coat button.
