Here is a great looking sword for the price! It is an original U.S. model 1872 cavalry officer's saber in scabbard. This one would have been made about 1890 or so. These are easily distinguished by the cast brass hand guard. The guard has the Union eagle on the inside with the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other. It also has the stars on the underside of the grip. The grip still retains the original leather grip with a fantastic attic tone look all over. It retains all of the small strands of the double twist wire on top of the leather. The blade is full-length at 34 inches with a nice mottled color all over. This is one of the versions that were made without any etching on the blade. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard. It has the officer style brass mounts, drag and throat intact. It has the traces of the original plating on the body of the scabbard. This is a nice and complete US Model 1872 cavalry officer's saber in scabbard.
