This
is an excellent original paper and brass cartridge for the Civil War
Smith patent cavalry carbine. This .50 caliber bullet was patented on
December 15th 1863. It has the brass cartridge with the paper
wrap. It is in nice condition all the way around. This pattern is
illustrated on page 34 of the cartridge book. According to them there
were 30,062 Smith carbine purchased by the Government along with
13,861,500 of the cartridges. Not many of them survive and this is a
nice one.
