If you are setting up a Civil War medical display, then here is a wonderful piece to add. This is an original Civil War era medical scarificator. This was used instead of leeches to drain blood from the body. At this time, this was state-of-the-art. The spring still works but the blades do not protrude out of the bottom. The knob like device on the moves and still works as it should. I would assume that piece would have been used to adjust the penetrating depth of the blade. The piece measures 1-1/2 inches wide and is 1-3/4ths inches deep and 2-1/4th inches tall. What makes this one extra special is that it is contained in the original paper carrying case that it left the factory in. The case even has the top present. This is a fantastic piece of mid-1800's Medical history.
