Click on an image to enlarge

This is an authentic CDV image of Confederate general Humphrey Marshall of Kentucky. Marshall graduated West Point in 1832 and saw service in the 2nd Kentucky cavalry during the Mexican War. He served in Congress before the war. When the Civil War broke out he served as a brigadier General in the Confederacy. He saw limited action during the war but did participate in Brass Kentucky invasion in 1862. He did serve as a Confederate Congressman until the end of the war. It is a nice clear CDV of the general in his Confederate style military coat and you can see his stars on his collar. These CDV images were an important part of history from the Civil War era. It was the first practical way to bring images of a famous personality home to the regular people. The CDV images were made by applying a thin paper photo image of the famous person of the day to a heavier paper card. This made the image more durable and easier to display and also added uniformity to the size. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. It is a fine original CDV that will make a solid addition to any Civil War collection.
