What a great piece! This is an original 1862 dated $1.00
note from the State of Louisiana. In the center of the note it has the likeness
of the Goddess Ceres who was Goddess of Agriculture. In the center of the note
it has the Baton Rouge location of issuance and just to the right of that is
the printed date of February 24th 1862. Just below the Baton Rouge mark it has
the famous Louisiana state seal that depicts the mother pelican feeding her
young. It has the "ONE" overprint in red lettering across the front. This was
added at the printer help aid in the prevention of counterfeiting the note. What
is so wonderful about this note is that the paper it was printed on was already
printed on by the Bank of Texas. It was cheaper for Louisiana to get the used
paper rather than to buy the new paper. The note is correctly hand Signed and
numbered. The note is in circulated condition as you can see in the pictures. The
overall size of the note measures 6-1/4th inches by 2-3/4ths inches.
It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
