Here is an original Civil War tactics manual. This is the one that was printed by Childs of Philadelphia and is so marked with the 1863 print date on the title page. This is the 1861 edition of the revised regulations for the Army of the United States and is so noted on the title page. This one is in nice shape and appears to have all or at least the majority of the fold out diagrams intact. The cover of the book is the original one with the embossed eagle on the cover and back and the spine of the book has the gold gilded eagle with the book title. The book measures 5-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/4th inches. What makes this one special is the pencil name of the sailor that carried the book. It clearly reads "Joseph S. Cony U.S.N." The records show that Cony was mentioned in a few U.S. Navy reports. They show that he was and acting Ensign and was promoted to Acting Master on September 7th 1863.This is a nice manual for the price.
