Here is a great document from the latter days of the Civil War. This is an original roster paper from Company I of the 2nd Maine Cavalry. The 2nd Maine Cavalry regiment is best known because the men of the regiment stayed after the end of their term of service to protect Washington, D.C. after Gettysburg because many people were worried about the Confederates attacking the capitol. This one has the totals of the men that were in the regiment but what is neat, is that it has the notations of the men that were wounded. They are listed in brown in in the lower right hand section. It is pre-printed with the blanks filled in in fine brown ink. The document measures 15-1/2 inches wide and is 10-1/4 inches tall. A wonderful piece of history from Maine.
