Authentic 1847 Dated "Mississippi" Rifle by Robbins, Kendall & Lawrence

This is an attractive original "Mississippi" pattern rifle. This is officially known as the U.S. model 1841 rifle. They got their "Mississippi" nickname during the Mexican War when a regiment under the Command of Jefferson Davis of Mississippi used them with great effectiveness. They stand out from across the room because of all of the brass furniture they use. They have the classic brass patchbox, triggerguard, buttplate, barrel bands made of brass. This one has the manufacture date of 1847 on the lockplate to accompany the production location of Windsor, Vermont and the maker's mark of Robbins, Kendall & Lawrence. Robbins & Lawrence only made 10,000 of these Mississippi pattern rifles and only produced them from 1845 until 1848. The action works well on all positions. All of the brass parts have a rich golden tone all over. The barrel is full length and you can no longer see the inspector marks at the breech. The barrel is still in the original .54 caliber bore size that has the rifling still visible. The front sight is intact and it has a stud style rear sight. The front and rear sling swivels are modern replacements and they still pivot. The ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel is a modern made replacement that looks nice with the gun. The stock on this gun has a very pleasing look. It has an attractive grain to the walnut with the inspector stamps on the flat opposite of the lockplate are still visible but only when you turn it in just the right light. The larger one would be that of "WAT" which are the initials of William A. Thornton who approved the gun for military service. When you look under the hammer, you can see that this gun has been fired so much it wore down the wood from the burnout. I wish this one could talk. This is a cool looking 1847 dated Mississippi rifle from the Robbins, Kendall & Lawrence Company.
