Scarce Version "CS" in Shield Dug Confederate Staff Officer Button

Have you ever had a chance to buy one of these? Probably not. This is the large, high dome 23mm coat size button worn by Confederate staff officers. This is the pattern that is unlisted in Albert's button book and as CS239a1 in Tice's button book. It is a very distinctive design with the crudely formed eagle on the brass face of the button. This version has the very thick and long neck design. The wings are upturned with the shield that has the magic "CS" letters in the middle. As with most of these, you only see a small portion of the "CS" lettering. When I got the button you couldn't see any of the lettering so I sent it down to Dr. Robert McDaniel and he "Dusted" it with patina to make the letter show up better and it is priced accordingly. These are constructed with the simple and fragile brass "Puff" style back. This one has the nice original back intact as is the shank. As Tice states in his book '''This button is a third rare example of a Confederate eagle with upturned wings." Don't miss this opportunity to get a very hard to find Confederate staff officer button in excavated condition.
