This is a great looking piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunion and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This badge was to commemorate the 1905 reunion of the Department of New Mexico G.A.R. that was held in Albuquerque. The top bar proudly reads "REPRESENTATIVE" which lets us know that the soldier attending the reunion was a veteran and not just an attendee. The ribbon is red white and blue with gold lettering. It reads the 1905 reunion date and Albuquerque location and the GAR medallion image. The ribbon also has the "Annual Encampment" marking. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. It measures 6-3/4ths inches by 2-1/2 inches in overall size. It even has the original maker label on the reverse. This is an excellent Badge for any collection and is from a state that is tough to find.
