Superb Non-Dug Coat Size Louisiana Button With EXTRA RICH Backmark
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a beautiful Civil War uniform button for the state of Louisiana. The front of the button has the spread wing mother pelican feeding her young in the nest below. There is still a superb amount of the original gold wash remaining in the recesses of the button's face. This is the pattern listed as figure LA2 in Albert's button book and as LA203a3 in Tice's book, both of which we sell. It has the correct Civil War era retailer's mark on the back of "***EXTRA *** RICH". Tice's book says that these were made by Scovill around 1860. This is a beautiful and classic style of Civil War Louisiana coat button in great shape.
