This is a superb excavated copper time fuze holder for a Confederate cannon shell. This is the pattern you so often see in Confederate Read shells. This is the version that is pictured on the page 42 in the Civil War artillery shell fuse book by Chuck Jones. It stands 1.4 inches tall and is 1.3 inches across on the head of the fuse. It has a wonderful patina all over. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that it was found in the area near the Battle of Cold Harbor outside of Richmond, Virginia. It will make a wonderful addition to any artillery collection.
