OUCH! Surgeon's Amputation Saw From the Late 1800's
Click on an image to enlarge
OUCH! This is one painful looking instrument. This is an original late 1800's example of a surgeon's capital amputation saw. We know that this one would date from after the Civil War because it is plated and the earlier versions were not. This one has the original blade that measures 7 inches in overall length. It mounts onto the silver plated spine with the thermoplastic saw grip handle. The piece still displays beautifully and will make a fine display and costs just a fraction of what an original Civil War amputation saw will cost these days.
