Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a wonderful display piece! It is a scarce uncut original sheet of 4 bank notes from the Bank of Greensborough in Greensborough, Georgia. There are three $1.00 notes and a single $2.00 note. Each of the notes proudly states "BANK OF GREENSBOROUGH" along the top edge. The $1.00 notes have the image of the steam train at the station in the center. The $2.00 note has the classic image of the slave picking cotton. These notes were prepared just before the bank's failure in 1858 nd could be put in circulation almost immediately since the date, signatures, and serial numbers were all printed. The printed date is December 7th 1858 and this one has the serial numbers of 6,428. They were by made by Bald, Cousland & Company of New York and Philadelphia. They are unmarked on the reverse. The overall size of the sheet measures 13-3/4ths inches by 8 inches in size. What a great piece of Georgia history from just before the War.
