Very Nice Dug Confederate Infantry "Lined I" Coat Button From Bentonville CS172
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine dug original Confederate coat size Infantry uniform button. This is the style referred to by collectors as the "Lined I" because on the inside of the block "I" for infantry on the front is small lines. It has the original back and shank intact and the correct Civil War "SUPERIOR QUALITY" backmarked back. They left the maker's name off of the back so it could be sold by any retailer without advertising for the actual maker. This is the style listed as CS172 in Albert's book and CSI203a3 in Tice's button book. The "I" is super clear on the front with an attractive look. This button was found years ago in North Carolina in an area occupied by the Confederate after the battle of Bentonville. Bentonville was one of the last battles of the Civil War. Confederate General Joe Johnston made one last stand against Union General William T. Sherman. This is a fine original Civil War Confederate Infantry Button.
