Click on an image to enlarge

Here is a beautiful sword! This is the style that is known to collectors as the eagle pommel officer's saber. They get their nickname because the pommel cap at the end of the grip that holds the sword together is made like the head of an eagle. This one has the impressive eagle with a determined look. This pattern is reported to have been made in the Philadelphia area for the well-to-do American market. The cross guard has the clamshell that have the large Union style Eagle. The eagle has the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other talon. The hand grip is original to the sword and it is made of a high quality piece of bone with a pleasing golden tone all over. The blade is full length at 31-3/4th inches. On each side of the blade it has a majority of the beautiful blue and gold wash. It gives gorgeous detail to the engraving on each side that depicts floral and patriotic designs. The scabbard is is still present. The brass scabbard still retains a fine amount of the original factory silver. The silver on the scabbard and handle let us know that it was worn by an Infantry officer. The scabbard is complete with both of the mounts and rings intact. It also has the the floral stud at the top so it could have been worn by a frog style attachment if the soldier so desired. The throat and cap style drag are still present on the scabbard. This is a great looking sword.
