This is one of the exact spurs that is pictured and described on page 39 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a spur of the style that is referred to as a "Jeff Davis" pattern spur. They get this nickname because it is a pattern that was worn by Confederate President Jefferson Davis was wearing when he was captured by Union forces after the fall of the Confederacy. This is a gorgeous looking spur! This one has a beautiful copper tone with the rowel that is likely a hand carved copper coin. On the back of the spur legs it has the rectangular style strap loops holes. It has a beautiful non-excavated patina with a pretty copper color to the brass. It states int he book that the spur came from Parkersburg, West Virginia. The spur is in fine non-excavated condition for its age. This is a great looking spur from all angles!
