Click on an image to enlarge

This is a very nice Civil War Louisiana $50 bill. It was issued by the State of Louisiana and is proudly marked across the center of the note. In the center it has the image of Confederate General Leonidas Polk. Polk was one of Louisiana's favorite sons. He was not only a Confederate general but also an Episcopal Bishop. Polk was killed by cannon fire at the battle of Pine Mountain near Atlanta, Georgia on June 14th 1864. This note was issued from Shreveport on March 10th 1863 and is marked as such below the image of the General. On the lower right hand corner it has the image of a Lady Liberty holding a spear with a Confederate shield below her. The note is nicely and correctly hand signed and numbered in fine old ink. On the back of the note it has elaborate green ink with the "50" in the center. The note is in attractive circulated condition. It comes in an acid free holder for preservation and display.
