Authentic Civil War Leather Rifle Sling for a .58 Caliber Military Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge

Here is a nice piece to add to your Civil War military rifle. This is the classic leather and brass sling that went on the U.S. model 1855, 1861 or 1865 military rifles. It would be correct for a Springfield rifle or any rifle made by one of the government contract maker made rifles. The leather is still pliable except for the sewn on loop on the end that is almost frozen in place after the years. The brass adjuster is still present on the other end. You can still see traces of the inspector stamps and maker stamps in the leather. You can still see part of the correct Civil War maker's mark of the New York firm of Baker & McKinney. Baker & McKinney had a contract for 10,000 sets of infantry accoutrements on September 14th 1864. This is likely one of those made for that order. These are tough to find and this one has a pretty brownish tone to the leather.
