This is a good looking original Civil War weapon that you can tell saw service. It is an original and classic Civil War 7-shot Spencer cavalry carbine. This is the model 1860 which is the correct model for Civil War use and it was also converted for use after the war. It has all matching serial numbers of 34,135, which is within in the Civil War production since they started at 11,000 and went to 61,000 before the war ended. The barrel is full-length at 22 inches and it still has nice lands and grooves in the bore rifling. It has the rear sight present. The rear sight still has the slide present. At the muzzle of the barrel it has the original front sight base intact. You can tell that the used this one because the blade of the sight has been replaced by an 1869 silver coin. The top of the frame has most of the Spencer markings and Boston, Massachusetts production location still visible. The action works well on all positions. The magazine tube that held the Spencer cartridges is still present in the back and is in nice shape. On the flat of the shoulderstock is has the faint remnants of the cartouche stamps where the gun was approved for military service by the Government inspector. The stamp would have been of "ESA" which lets us know that Erskin S. Allin approved the rework for military use. The original sling swivel base is still present on the underside of the stock and it has the original swivel. This is a very attractive looking complete Civil War Spencer 7-shot cavalry carbine that more character than most of the ones that you encounter.
