Scarce Armitage Made 1815-1822 Eagle "I" Infantry Cuff Button GI38av

This is a tough to find button that will date from about 1815-1822. This is the pattern listed as GI3838 in Albert's button book. It is the pewter 1-piece uniform button that was worn by the infantry soldiers. The face of the button has the Union eagle with the shield by her side. In the center of the shield it has the script style "I" for the infantry branch of service. On the back of the button you can still see part of the maker's mark of Amritage who made uniform buttons in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The shank is is still solidly intact on the reverse of the button. This button was found years ago at Fort San Marcos de Apalachee near Tallahassee. More importantly, this button is directly related to Jackson’s visit there in 1818 during the first Seminole War. This is a nice displaying early U.S. infantry cuff button.
