This is an authentic CDV image Confederate General James Longstreet (1821-1904). The image shows Longstreet with his thick beard and his uniform from the bust view. On the back of the card it has the desirable photographer's marking from the Selby & Dulcany firm in Baltimore, Maryland. Longstreet was a West Pointer that resigned as a Major in the U.S. Army in June of 1861 to Join the Confederacy as a Brigadier General. As a Major General he commanded a division and as a Lieutenant general he was placed in charge of the 1st Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. In September he was sent with part of His Corps to Tennessee. This was for his disagreement about strategy with Lee at Gettysburg. After he commanded the left wing at the Battle of Chickamauga he was placed in charge of the Department of East Tennessee. He was severely wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness but resumed his command in October of 1864. He was with General Lee for the surrender at Appomattox. The image has some staining but still displays well. This is a Fine view of one of the South's most beloved Generals.
