This is a fine piece of history from a Civil War veteran. It is an original reunion badge that was worn by a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. This was the veteran's organization of the Union veterans of the Civil War. In order to become a member of the organization you had to prove that you served honorably for the United States during the war. This is the medal that the veteran would have worn for reunions on one side and then when you reverse the top bar it could be used for funerals of the members. The one side has the red-white and blue ribbon with the "ALBERT WINCHELL POST NO. 327 G.A.R. LYONS, IOWA". The back side has another, black ribbon with the same wording but with silver letter on the black mourning ribbon. The original attachment pin is present on the reverse. The top bar has the shaking hands with the hanging celluloid with the GAR Medal. The piece was made by the firm of Balto Badge Supply Co of Baltimore, Maryland. This one is very nice and will enhance any collection.
