This is a cool bayonet that has had a couple of lives. This one started out life as a standard Civil War era 1853 pattern socket bayonet for the Enfield rifle. After their initial use they were lined or "Bushed" inside the socket to make them smaller in diameter so they could be used on the Martini Henry military rifle. This is the pattern that is illustrated as figure #3 on pages 45 and 46 of the Bayonet book by Janzen. This one is complete with the original proof marks at the base and on the back of the socket it has the inspection marks from the lining and subsequent issue with the later weapon. The bayonet comes in a period leather and brass scabbard. The scabbard his the original one and has the correct English proof marks. This is a cool bayonet and scabbard that has seen a couple of lives.
