Artillery
Scarce Overstruck Backmark 1-Piece Artillery Eagle "A" Coat Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful 1-piece coat size Artillery officer's eagle "A" button. On the front of the button it has the eagle with the "A" in the center of the eagle's shield which denotes the artillery branch of service. As you can see the face still retains some of the original gold gilding from the factory. It has an excellent original shank intact. It has the back that has a tougher to find backmark. This is the version that is listed as AY199D4 in Tice's button book. It has the original maker mark that is obliterated and appears to have been "ROBINSON & CO.". The visible marking is that of ROBINSON EXTRA". This is the first one of these we have encountered so don't miss your chance. The face has fine detail and a very clear "A" in the eagle's shield. This is an excellent button all the way around.
