Uniform Buttons of the U.S. Artillery & Navy Branches in Non-Excavated Condition

Artillery
Scarce Version Robinson & Jones 2-Piece Artillery Eagle "A" Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful 2-piece coat size Artillery officer's eagle "A" button. This is the style that is usually is a 1-piece construction but these 2-piece versions are tougher to find. On the front of the button it has the eagle with the "A" in the center of the eagle's shield which denotes the artillery branch of service. It has an excellent original shank intact. It has the back that has a clearly visible "ROBINSONS. JONES & Co. *A*." backmark written in block style letters. This is the version that is listed in Tice's button book as AY206A4. The Robinson and Jones company were in business from early 1828 until November 24, 1834 when Jones sold his portion of the business. That lets us know this is a nice early production on this pattern of Eagle button. The face has fine detail and a very clear "A" in the eagle's shield. This is an excellent button all the way around.
