This is a scarce original non-excavated coat button from the War of 1812. This is the version with the script style letter "I" on the face with the star in the oval below. It is made of pewter and this one is very nice as you can see. The fragile pewter shank is still present on the reverse. This is the style listed as GI36A1 in Albert's button book. You see this version of button fairly regularly in excavated condition but when was the last time that you saw one in non-excavated condition' This is a nice and authentic War of 1812 Infantry Uniform button.'
