This is a beautiful button! It is the original coat size uniform button for the state of Florida. It is the pattern listed as FL1 in Albert's button book and as FL200A3 in Tice's button book. These Florida buttons are very tough to find and this one is a beauty. The face of the button has the Florida territorial shield that depicts an eagle in the center and she is holding an olive branch of peace in one talon and in the other talon is the arrows of war. Above the eagle is an arc of 13 stars for the original 13 colonies. Below the eagle it has a cactus and all of these symbols are on a beautiful lined field. The face of the button has an excellent amount of the original gold gilding which gives it a gorgeous look. On the reverse of the button it has the original shank nicely intact. You can still read every letter of the correct Civil War era maker's mark of "SCOVILL MFG CO WATERBURY".
