This is a very cool original Confederate belt buckle. It is the variation of the buckle version listed as Plate #010 in the revised edition of Confederate belt Buckles & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This is a tough to find pattern of two piece sword belt buckle with the oak leaf design to the wreath. These were made by the firm owned by Thomas Leech. His firm was known as the Memphis Novelty Works Company owned by Thomas Leech & Charles Rigdon. The bold C.S. letters on the buckle tongue can be seen from across the room. This one is in very attractive non-excavated condition and has no restoration of any kind. It has a beautiful attic tone to the brass of the buckle. On the inside of the wreath, it has the stamped capital letter "L" which is a Leech & Rigdon production trait. What makes this one extra special is that the buckle is still attached to the original leather belt. The belt is made of pigskin leather. As you can see, it has a wonderful ancient untouched look all over. You can tell that the soldier wore this one for the entire War. It has the brass length adjuster on the leather. The are two leather slides to hold the leather in place, when you look at the leather, you see that it has the snake style designs tooled into the leather. It is very rare to find one of these on the original belt. This is a fine looking original Civil War 2-Piece Confederate belt buckle of a neat design and is on the original belt.
