This is an extremely hard to find Civil War cannon shell. This is the 6.4 inch diameter version of the Harding pattern cannon shell. This is the pattern of Harding that is illustrated on page #230 of the heavy artillery projectile book by Jack Bell. They were fired from both the rifled 32#er cannons as well as the 6.4 inch diameter Brooke rifle cannon. He states that this 6.4 inch version is a rarity of 6 out of 10. He states that the known excavated shells have been recovered from the Charleston, South Carolina area. It has been expertly cleaned and coated for display and preservation. It has had the original fired sabot attached to the base and it displays perfectly. You can see every land and groove of the cannon barrel impressed into the brass. Most of the time, they threw the sabots but this one is complete and beautiful. This is a fantastic piece of Confederate artillery. The last image shows how big this one is compared to a regular 3 inch shells. The weight is heavy so it would be best if we could arrange delivery at a show or you can pick it up at the shop but I can ship it but it will be expensive.
